Do Pergolas Need Foundations?
We instinctively know that every building needs some foundation for the building constructioning.
This concept is so ingrained in our hearts that as our common sense; but today we talked about whether the garden pergola needs a foundation, but telling the tructh, this question is depend on the actual condition of the ground.
Pergola is built as an all-aluminum structure. During the production process, it has undergone special processes such as extrusion and spraying. These process make sure that the aluminium pergola possess huge strongness.
In addition to its own aluminum metal characteristics, it cannot be considered as a foundationan project like ordinary building structure design.
Regarding to Installation mode, the pergola can be freestanding, or it can be attached to the house as part of a permanent structure;
Generally speaking, in the free-standing or wall-mounted intallation mode, the pergola can exist as a self-fixing type, that is why i say that it can stand without any foundation, but the premise is that the ground where the pergola set up is a flat concrete floor, because there is a structual design similar to a standing plane at the bottom of the post of the pergola, enabling it to stand stably on a flat ground.
In addition, if the owner of the house is worried that it is not stable enough, he can drill rivets on the plane at the bottom of the post to make it tightly connected to the ground.
However, the way the above post is connected to the ground depends on the conditions of the ground. If the soil is soft and the firmness similar to concrete cannot be achieved, in this case, it is necessary to partially embed the post into the soil ground and pour cement and so on.
Usually, there are not many scenarios where the ground environment are unstable, because considering that the pergola can be used as an outdoor space structure, it is usually when the environmental conditions are already suitable. The popular pergola on the market are basically pergola for patio, pergola over deck, and pergola over pool. There is basically a stable and flat ground in such scenarios of these pergola.
